Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
